Fair Use
Fair use is a component of copyright law. Under fair use a party my employ some copyrighted material under certain conditions. Fair use offers legal protection from copyright law, but is not a right. Use of copyrighted material is considered fair if done in small amounts for comment, criticism, or parody. The law calls four a factor test to consider whether an item's use is fair. Many lawyers, scholars and librarians have discussed fair use and its implications for new works including artistic ones. Fair use provides necessary flexibility in using copyright material, but it can be difficult to discern fair use from copy right violation.
